The area of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is divided into five microregions, one of which is Gorski Kotar, which consists of municipalities and cities. Gorski Kotar consists of 6 municipalities: Brod Moravice, Fužine, Lokve, Mrkopalj, Ravna Gora and Skrad, and 3 cities: Čabar, Delnice and Vrbovsko. Gorski Kotar is located in the center of the temperate zone and the 45th parallel passes through its central part, between the Pannonian region and the Mediterranean Sea, with an average altitude of 700-900 meters, intersected by a series of karst fields and the Kupa River valley, as well as several higher areas such as Bjelolasica (1533 m); Risnjak (1528 m) and Snježnik (1506 m), all of which place it in an area of high forest cover. The significance of the relief is reflected in its direct impact on the population and economic functions of the entire region.
